Beware if you take a taxi in New York. The serial killer Dexter may be sitting at the wheel. If you jump into the back seat of a car, you will behave, because you never know who is driving, says Michael C Hall and smiles sarcastically.

The smile has become familiar to TV viewers all over the world since Michael C Hall started playing the serial killer Dexter Morgan 20 years ago.

Now he's back in a new series, "Dexter: Resurrection", which comes to SkyShowtime on September 12. This despite Dexter being shot by his own son Harrison at the end of the series "Dexter: New blood" three years ago.

But Dexter turns out to have survived and after a period in the hospital, he escapes to the big city.

Rebirth

The idea behind the new series is to give Dexter a rebirth – resurrection

I became more and more fond of the idea of giving a character like Dexter a second chance in life. And see how it would turn out, says Michael C Hall.

Dexter heads to New York because his son Harrison works there at a hotel. He starts driving for an Uber-like taxi company to easily be able to move between neighborhoods in search of new victims – but also to discreetly protect his son who, so to speak, continues the family tradition.

When Dexter at the beginning of the series arrives at a crime scene and realizes that Harrison is the murderer, he becomes worried – but at the same time very proud.

That's what I like so much about the series, that he can be two such different things at the same time, says Michael C Hall engaged and continues:

On the one hand, Dexter is horrified that his son is like him, but it's also something that's very exciting. And he has to handle both feelings at the same time.

Human and sensitive

At the same time as he tries to protect his son, another serial killer is ravaging New York, whom the media has dubbed "The Dark Passenger", the name Dexter gave his inner murderous darkness.

Dexter does not appreciate the competition and sets out to hunt down his rival.

It shows that Dexter, despite everything, is quite human and can be sensitive. Despite everything else that's going on, he becomes fixated on someone getting his nickname, says Michael C Hall and smiles.

So how long can "Dexter" continue? There is still no clear signal for a second season, but Michael C Hall is open to a continuation.

By this point, I've learned to never say never when it comes to "Dexter". And I think the season ends in a way that leaves the door a little ajar.
