Alican Uludag is Turkey correspondent for the German foreign channel DW and has been awarded several prizes for his reporting on corruption and Turkey's judiciary.
He was arrested at his home in a raid by around 30 police officers, according to DW.
German Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer, himself a former journalist, told the AFP news agency that:
Journalistic work is not criminally punishable. The charges against Uludag are baseless; he must be released.
Uludag is formally suspected of spreading disinformation and insulting Turkey and its president.
