The son was reportedly injured in the American-Israeli attacks on Iran but survived.

56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei has been identified as a likely successor to Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the war on February 28.

In parallel, there are reports that Iran's so-called Council of Experts will meet on Sunday to appoint a successor, a new supreme leader, reports The Jerusalem Post.

Ayatollah Mozafari, one of the council's 88 members, reportedly confirmed the meeting.
