Following the school shooting in Fagersta in August, an 18-year-old is being held on suspicion of murder and four attempted murders. An examination requested by the court shows that he may suffer from a serious mental disorder.
Now, documents seen by Dagens Nyheter show that both the family home, where he had been placed, and social services in Västerås had raised the alarm about his mental health.
The case was then taken over by the child and adolescent psychiatry unit (BUP) in Fagersta, but the investigation was closed there.
"Maybe we should have pushed even harder," Eva Leijon, operations manager at the social services in Sundsvall, who was responsible for the 18-year-old and his foster home placement, told the newspaper.
