The venerable tournament Europa Top 16, where Europe's highest-ranked players meet, is in full swing and Swedish star Truls Möregårdh is there seeking revenge.
In the quarterfinal, Möregårdh faced Portuguese Marcos Freitas, who didn't have much to offer against the 23-year-old from Sweden.
It was a victory in three straight sets, 11–6, 12–10, 11–5, and Möregårdh is thus clear for the semifinal against Darko Jorgić from Slovenia.
Möregårdh has two final losses in the major tournament so far in his career, 2022 and 2024, but has never won.
At the same time as the tournament is ongoing, the double OS silver medalist from last summer is in the midst of an infected conflict with the Swedish Table Tennis Association (SBTF), and national team captain Tobias Bergman is not present to coach the 23-year-old. Instead, his father, Carl Möregårdh, is coaching in Montreaux.
