Nilsson, 19, jumped into many homes when she cleared 1,92 without failures on Sunday. She increased her personal record by three centimeters and it was enough for a European Championship bronze already in her championship debut.
But instead of loading up for another championship – and a tougher one – she chooses to take a long-term view of her development as a high jumper.
Therefore, she is aiming for the World Championship outdoors in Tokyo in September.
I and my coach have chosen to opt out of the World Championship in China to focus more on the outdoor season. There is a World Championship in Tokyo that I am extremely interested in participating in. I have had a fairly long and intense indoor season, so getting to finish it on top felt completely right, she says to SVT.
It was not even clear that Engla Nilsson would get a spot in the Nanjing World Championship 21–23 March.
Right now, she would be one placement outside (the international top list). 1,93 is the twelfth result on this list right now. It takes just one or two withdrawals there and she is in, said national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist on Sunday.
Then Bergqvist was considering registering Nilsson for the indoor World Championship.
