The United Kingdom left the EU in January 2020 and was never part of the euro cooperation beforehand.

But that does not prevent Finance Minister Rachel Reeves from participating in the euro countries' finance ministers' meeting in Brussels on Monday.

This is a milestone and an opportunity for the United Kingdom to reiterate our desire to restart the relationship with our friends and neighbours in the EU, says Reeves on her way into the meeting.

She emphasizes, however, that the participation is made with the United Kingdom's national interests in the first place.

And it is in our interest to have more normal trade relations with our closest neighbours and cooperate on both trade and security, says Reeves.
