The first half was a difficult story for France, who were down 0-4 at half-time. Deschamps angrily described the half as "catastrophic" and urged his players to show pride, according to AFP.
French superstar Kylian Mbappé regrets the team's performance.
"The first half gives the impression that we let him down - that's not how we wanted him to feel at all. This match will not tarnish Didier Deschamps' legacy," Mbappé said, according to the AP.
Although France turned things around and scored four goals in the second half at a furious pace, it was not enough to secure a medal and the country was defeated 4–6.
"It would have been better to finish third. We entered the tournament with great ambitions and we managed to do a lot of good things," Deschamps told French M6 after the match, according to RMC Sport.
Even though he feels sporting disappointment, he highlights the quality of the French players and what the effort has meant to the French people.
"On a personal level, it's been a great adventure. Eight weeks, it was wonderful."
