The death toll is rising after yesterday's collision between a bus and a truck in Afghanistan. Around 80 people have been confirmed dead, says a spokesperson for the government in the province of Herat.

Most of the victims are found among the bus passengers, reports AFP.

All on the bus were Afghans who had recently been deported from Iran, reports BBC Pashto with reference to an official from the country's Taliban regime. The bus was on its way to the capital Kabul when it collided with a truck and a motorcycle on Tuesday evening and caught fire.

Everyone on board was killed, about twenty of them children, according to BBC.

Iran and also Pakistan have in recent months stepped up deportations of undocumented Afghan migrants who have fled their home country. At least 1.5 million Afghans have been forced back to the Taliban's Afghanistan, which has been criticized by, among others, the UN.
