The Oscar-winning actor, who turns 70 on December 28, was baptized at a church service broadcast live on Facebook a few days before Christmas, writes The Guardian.
Dressed in a white robe, Denzel Washington was lowered into the water.
"It took a while, but I'm finally here," said Washington after the ceremony, according to the church's Facebook post.
"We celebrate the addition of Pastor Denzel Washington after he today received his license in the Church of Christ, writes Archbishop Christopher Bryant in the post.
The license makes it possible for Washington to serve at smaller religious services, such as weddings. But Washington is not yet ordained as a pastor.
Washington has previously spoken about his religious awakening in the early 1980s at a church in Los Angeles:
It felt like I was lifted up, he said then.
He has also recently hinted at putting his acting career on hold.
The Church of Christ is one of the largest Pentecostal churches in the USA.
