"It's been a nerve-wracking few days. It was a big disappointment last time (in the World Cup qualifiers), but the job is not done yet," says two-goal scorer Gustav Isaksen.

The Czech Republic, on the other hand, managed to come back from 0–2 down to 2–2 in the playoff semi-final against Ireland in Prague. The Czechs then fell behind in the penalty shootout, but when Ireland missed their last two penalties, Jan Kliment was finally able to push the home team one step closer to the World Cup.

Wales also saw their World Cup hopes end in a penalty shootout. Bosnia-Herzegovina won in Cardiff and will now face Italy at home in Zenica for a World Cup ticket on Tuesday.

Facts: How the World Cup playoff finals are played

Sweden–Poland (Solna).

Bosnia-Herzegovina–Italy (Zenica).

Kosovo–Turkey (Pristina).
