Denmark does not intend to vote no to Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, announces DR.

In November, the 68 member companies of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will vote on whether Israel will be allowed to participate in the competition.

The background is that TV companies in, among other countries, the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, Slovenia, and Ireland have threatened to boycott the competition if Israel is allowed to participate, with reference to the war in Gaza.

Denmark has previously announced that it does not intend to boycott the competition, and now the message is that it does not intend to vote for Israel to be excluded from the competition.

”DR stands behind ESC as a cultural and European event that has united nations through music since 1956. Therefore, we do not intend to vote for any EBU member to be removed from the competition, as long as they follow the rules”, writes Gustav Lützhøft, program manager for DR's culture, debate, and music editorial in a statement that Ritzau has taken part of.

Israel's public service channel KAN has announced that it will appoint a competitor, even though it is still unclear whether Israel will be allowed to participate.
