Only menthol and tobacco flavors are allowed, while the nicotine content is limited to 9 milligrams per nicotine pouch.
In Sweden, it is common for the nicotine content to be between 1.5 and 16.5 milligrams.
"Nicotine is not for children, and therefore the products should neither be colorful nor taste like candy," said Denmark's Minister of the Interior and Health Sophie Løhde (V) when the proposal was presented in the fall of 2024.
Since July 1, 2025, producers have not been allowed to manufacture the now-banned products.
Larger chains that have products left will need to recall them the same way they would recall a defective item.
