The security situation is so bad that we can no longer maintain an embassy, said Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at a press conference.
He emphasized that Denmark wants to continue diplomatic relations with Iran, but that opening the embassy is entirely dependent on the security situation.
The Netherlands also announced on Tuesday that the country's diplomatic staff are leaving Iran and will be moved to Azerbaijan.
Spain, Austria and Italy, among others, have previously closed their embassies in Tehran.
TT has contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for information about the Swedish embassy. On March 4, it was announced that the embassy's office is closed to visitors.
