Several countries are expected to recognize a Palestinian state shortly. "A huge mistake" that will "destabilize the region", according to Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar.

France has promised to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly later in September. The same applies to the United Kingdom, unless Israel and terrorist-stamped Hamas agree on a ceasefire.

According to Gideon Sa’ar, such decisions would make it "harder to achieve peace", writes AFP.

It will also pressure Israel to make unilateral decisions, says the Israeli Foreign Minister.

The statement came during a joint press conference with Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who is in Jerusalem.

Sa’ar did not specify what such a reaction would entail, but the words are said against the background of reports that Israel plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

Løkke Rasmussen, in turn, announced that Denmark will not recognize the state of Palestine at present, not as long as "Hamas or any other terrorist organization" rules.

But Israel has no veto over Danish recognition of a Palestinian state, he says according to The Jerusalem Post.

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in August that they have been in favor of recognition for "a fairly long time", but that they are not ready yet.

We must of course be sure that it will be a democratic state, she said then according to DR.

Other countries that are ready to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly include, among others, Finland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
