In total, around 14.6 billion Danish kronor will be used for the reinforcement. Of these, 11.8 billion Danish kronor, equivalent to approximately 18 billion Swedish kronor, will go towards military purposes.

The money will, among other things, be used for three new warships and drones. The ships will eventually replace four old and worn-out vessels.

The announcement comes at the same time as US President Donald Trump has expressed that he thinks Greenland should become American and that Denmark cannot "deliver freedom" for Greenland in a situation with Chinese and Russian vessels around.

Greenland's Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt says that the three new ships in the Arctic "ensure stability", and that the investment means a lot for the Greenlanders' security.

We are also aware that the security policy situation has changed, and we must take that into account.

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will meet NATO's Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Brussels on Tuesday.
