A force of many thousands of former conscripts, who are to be ready to enter the defense again in the event of a crisis or war, says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (Venstre) in a video speech held in connection with Denmark celebrating its national day (Constitution Day).

In the speech, he launches further news. Next week, the Danish government will make a decision on the purchase of systems to be used in a ground-based air defense.

The extension of conscription to eleven months is being brought forward, the Defense Minister further announces. It was previously stated that conscription would be extended in August next year, but this will now instead take place as early as February.

The reason why air defense, new conscription, and the build-up of a new mobilization force are being rushed is that we once again have war in Europe and that the world as we know it is changing rapidly, says the Defense Minister.
