Denmark does not appreciate the tone of the US Vice President JD Vance during his visit to Greenland.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has posted a pre-recorded speech on social media, addressing "a message to our American friends and everyone else who is listening".
Of course, we are open to criticism. But let me be completely honest: We do not appreciate the tone in which it is presented, says the minister.
This is not how you speak to your close allies, and I still see Denmark and the US as close allies.
Løkke Rasmussen emphasizes that the US already has significant military access to Greenland in accordance with previous agreements and calls for greater joint commitments within the existing framework and NATO.
JD Vance said during a visit to the US base Pituffik on northern Greenland that Denmark "has not done a good job of keeping Greenland safe" and that the population there would be "much better off" under the US security umbrella.
