”Some of my earliest memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father”, says the director in a comment in a press release from Amazon MGM Studios.
”I am a die-hard Bond fan. For me, he is sacred ground", continues Villeneuve.
Oscar-nominated Villeneuve – who among other things has directed ”Dune”, ”Dune: Part two”, ”Blade runner 2049" and ”Arrival” – is also one of the producers for the next Bond film.
He says that he has ”the intention to honor the tradition”:
”This is a huge responsibility, but also incredibly exciting and a great honor for me.”
Bond's future on the screen has been unclear in recent years. But in February, it became clear that Amazon MGM Studios would take over the rights and creative control over the Bond brand.
Which actor will take on the role of the secret British spy after Daniel Craig – who said goodbye with ”No time to die” in 2021 – is not known.
But there is wild speculation. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Josh O’Connor, Paul Mescal and Henry Cavill are some stars who have been mentioned recently.
