In a letter sent Wednesday, Democrats Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia argue that questions Trump and his advisers ask AI chatbots must, by law, be preserved as part of the presidential records.
“If the American president relies on policy advice from a Musk-designed, Hitler-friendly chatbot with a penchant for child pornography to carry out his formal commitments, the American people have a right to know,” reads part of the letter.
The wording alludes to previous controversies in which Grok made anti-Semitic statements and generated images depicting children in a sexualized manner.
According to reports, during a meeting with Elon Musk at the White House in December last year, Trump spent considerable time asking Grok how Venezuelans might react if American forces captured the country's leader, Nicolás Maduro.
Grok is said to have replied that many in Venezuela would welcome the operation. A few weeks later, Maduro was captured, but it has not been confirmed that the AI chatbot’s response was a deciding factor.
In their letter, Raskin and Garcia demand a meeting to receive a briefing on the president's use of AI, the security procedures in place and whether external actors have access to sensitive information.
