The Prime Minister is under heavy pressure from the major defeat in the municipal elections, he tells the newspaper Berlingske .
In total, her Social Democrats received 23.2 percent of the votes in the municipal elections just over a week ago, a decline of 5.2 percentage points compared to the 2021 municipal elections.
In addition, the party lost 18 mayoral posts, including historical Social Democratic strongholds such as Copenhagen, Aalborg and Randers.
The losses have been described as a bloodbath and criticism has not been long in coming.
In a survey conducted by Danmarks Radio (DR) , 41 current Social Democratic municipal politicians say that Frederiksen is not the right person to turn things around in the run-up to next year's general election. This is described as an unexpectedly high number, although it is a small minority. Only 233 out of 729 respondents responded, and of those, 130 expressed support for Frederiksen while 62 did not want to reveal their opinion.
But according to DR, several municipal politicians have come forward by name and demanded her resignation.
The credibility is gone. People no longer believe in her, says municipal politician Svendborg Flemming Madsen to DR.
I don't think you can regain your strength with her at the helm.
Frederiksen has stated that she is not satisfied with the election results, but that she has no plans to resign.
