The accident occurred on Wednesday evening local time.
According to the airline, it was a wing on a plane preparing to take off to Virginia that hit the fuselage of another plane arriving from North Carolina.
A flight attendant received injuries described as not life-threatening and was taken to hospital. There are no reports of any passengers being injured.
"Delta will cooperate with all relevant authorities to investigate what happened, since the safety of our customers and employees comes before everything else", it says in the statement from Delta.
