526 days. That’s how long it had been since Dejan Kulusevski, 26, last played a competitive match for Tottenham. He injured his knee against Crystal Palace on May 11, 2025. Since then, he has undergone two major operations and missed the World Cup this summer.
But then, in the 87th minute, with Tottenham leading 2–1 at home against Coventry, Kulusevski was allowed back onto the pitch, to great cheers from the home crowd.
Kulusevski managed to get a couple of touches on the ball and saw Ben Davies score the decisive 3–1 for “Spurs”, who had been the only Premier League team without a win this season before the match.
“He’s a fantastic person and we celebrated him in the dressing room after the game. He’s probably the most important thing after this win,” Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi told the BBC.
James Maddison fired in the 1–0 with a powerful shot, and Manchester City loanee Omar Marmoush made it 2–1 with a powerful strike.
