The last time Degerfors dropped points in Superettan was on August 18. Since then, it has been three-pointers after three-pointers, and the road back to Allsvenskan has thus looked straightforward for a long time.
And away against Gif Sundsvall, it was no exception. Table-leading Degerfors defeated the bottom team 2–1, after defender Erik Lindell scored his third goal of the fall.
But the victory was hard-won.
The visiting team took the lead through one of the team's top scorers, Gustav Lindgren, but only six minutes later saw Gustav Nordh equalize.
The deciding goal would instead come as late as in the 88th minute, when Lindell scored the winning goal that made it 2–1.
We're going for a win in every match. We know that sometimes it takes, like in Gävle, 94 minutes to decide. Today it was 88. Sometimes you have to have a little patience, says Lindell to Max.
The win means not only that Degerfors has now won seven in a row. It also means that the team can already secure promotion to Allsvenskan in the next round. This after table two Öster dropped points against Oddevold.
Thus, the gap downwards is now eight points, with twelve left to play. If Öster and Landskrona fail to win in the next round, while Degerfors defeats Örebro, the promotion is clear.
