Maradona died in November 2020 at the age of 60. Family members have questioned the circumstances surrounding the Argentine's death. The medical team has been accused, despite their denials, of inadequate care.

A trial began last year but was declared invalid when one of the judges appeared in a documentary, which meant that the court's impartiality was questioned.

A new trial began in April this year, where a doctor testified about Maradona's kidney health, among other things. However, the proceedings were paused for a week when the defense claimed that the kidney samples in the evidence belonged to Maradona's father.

According to the AFP news agency, which has seen a letter, the samples had been incorrectly filed under the legend's name. Maradona's father died five years before his son.

The trial is expected to resume on Thursday.
