The announcement comes just hours after Iran sent a stark warning to London and Paris not to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
Over 40 countries will attend the meeting, according to the British statement.
The US and Israel's war against Iran has led to the strait being effectively blocked, which has affected oil prices, among other things.
