FMV, the Defence Materiel Administration, is to investigate what vulnerabilities exist regarding data chips and semiconductor components used by the Defence. This is reported by Sveriges Radio Ekot.

It can be underwater or combat aircraft or some other part of the Defence Forces where you are very dependent on semiconductors, says Defence Minister Pål Jonson (The Moderate Party) to Ekot.

Then you have to know where these semiconductors come from and what it would mean if we do not have a high level of supply security for them.

The point of the investigation is to provide a deeper understanding of the vulnerabilities linked to semiconductor supply, in order to be able to strengthen the delivery reliability of defence equipment.

The assignment will be presented on January 15, 2026.
