Rice previously suffered a thigh and lower-back injury during the World Cup, but it is now believed to be stomach problems that have caused the 27-year-old to miss two straight days of training, writes the BBC.

But the concerns for national team coach Thomas Tuchel do not stop there.

Centre-back Marc Guéhi is also reported to have a thigh injury, and will be assessed late ahead of the match against Norway. It has already been clear that defender Jarell Quansah is suspended and will miss the quarter-finals and a possible semi-final.

Pleasingly for Tuchel, full-back Reece James is expected to be available against Norway, after missing two straight matches.

Norway-England kicks off at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, Swedish time.
