The African Championships are fitting into the international football calendar.

Starting in 2028, the championship will be played every four years instead of every two years, like the World Cup and European Championship.

The decision was made on Saturday.

This is done to ensure harmony in the global football calendar, says Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe.

The championship will open on Sunday evening, when host nation Morocco meets Comoros.
