The number of new cases at Swedish debt collection companies decreased last year. However, the total debt amount increased sharply.

At the end of 2024, the debts at debt collection companies amounted to around 25 billion kronor, an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year, according to the industry organization Svensk inkasso's annual report.

"The influx of new debt claims is greater than the number of completed cases, which means that more claims are left pending longer. This indicates that payment problems in society are deepening," says Fredrik Engström, Chairman of Svensk inkasso in a press release.

The report also reveals that 44 percent of debt claims in 2024 concern amounts under 500 kronor.
