The collapse on eastern Java occurred on Monday when the students at the Muslim boarding school had gathered for prayer. Those affected are mainly boys aged 12–18 years.
We have evacuated a total of 149 victims, of which 45 have been reported dead, and 104 survivors, says Yudhi Bramantyo, head of the authorities' rescue efforts.
The hope is that the rescue work will be sufficiently completed during Sunday to be able to determine how many in total were killed in the accident.
