May Britt Wilkens was discovered by Italian film producer Carlo Ponti when she was 18. She starred in several films in Italy before signing with 20th Century Fox in 1957 and moving to Hollywood.
She portrayed the wife of a pilot in the Korean War drama "The Hunters" in 1958, starring Robert Mitchum, and the same year starred opposite Marlon Brando in the World War II drama "The Young Lions."
Other roles are in the films "The Blue Angel" and "The Night Wolves" - then only under the name May Britt - but after she became engaged to entertainer Sammy Davis Jr., Fox refused to renew her contract.
At the wedding in November 1960, Davis Jr.'s Rat Pack colleague Frank Sinatra was best man. The couple were married until 1968 and had three children together.
May Britt Wilkens died on December 11 of natural causes at a Los Angeles hospital, her son Mark Davis told The Hollywood Reporter .
