Sweden's former foreign minister Margaretha af Ugglas dies at 87

Margaretha af Ugglas died on May 10. During her life, she was Minister of Foreign Affairs in the conservative government from 1991 to 1994, and was subsequently elected leader of the Moderate Party group in the European Parliament.

She was initially an economist and journalist, including serving as an editorial writer for Svenska Dagbladet, but later became a politician. She began her political career on Stockholm County Council and advanced to the Riksdag, where she was a member from 1974 to 1995.

Margaretha af Ugglas, the sister of financier Jan Stenbeck, had also served on the boards of several large companies, including Kinnevik and Swedish Match.
