At least 13 people have been killed in a paramilitary attack on a mosque in war-torn Sudanese Darfur, say eyewitnesses in al-Fashir.

The rebel group RSF launched an attack on Wednesday, according to the information.

After the shelling in the afternoon, we pulled out 13 bodies from the rubble and buried them, says a witness.

A survivor claims that around 20 more people were injured. Parts of the mosque are said to have been destroyed.

On Wednesday, RSF was accused of being behind an attack on a maternity ward in al-Fashir. Eight people were killed then.

Sudan has been plagued by a brutal civil war since 2023 between the army, which has control over most government institutions, and the paramilitary RSF. Currently, a violent RSF offensive is underway in al-Fashir, with the aim of taking control of the city.
