At least eight people died when a motorboat loaded with migrants capsized off the island of Rhodes in Greece. 18 people are said to have been rescued from the waves, according to information from the country's coastguard.
The boat, which according to the coastguard was operated by human traffickers, is said to have made a "dangerous maneuver" when it tried to evade a patrol boat, which led to migrants falling into the water.
A rescue and salvage operation is underway and includes vessels and helicopters, according to Greek authorities. The motorboat is said to have sunk in the Aegean Sea.
