The death toll from the deadly floods that hit Sri Lanka has risen to 56. Now the authorities are closing both offices and schools.

Thursday's torrential rains worsened an already difficult situation for the people of Sri Lanka. Rivers and dams overflowed and caused landslides that claimed the lives of 25 people in the Badulla and Nuwara Eliya regions.

Several deaths due to landslides have been reported in the country and people have sought shelter from the floods on rooftops.

On Friday, schools and government buildings will be closed, and roads and trains have also been closed due to the floodwaters.
