The drone attack took place on Friday in Shiraro, near the border with Eritrea. “The attack led to deaths, injuries and material damage to the Tigray army,” the TPLF wrote in a statement on social media.
The incident is a warning about the situation between Ethiopia's central government under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Tigray separatist movement TPLF.
During the civil war between the central government army and Tigray forces between 2020 and 2022, around 600,000 people died in fighting and hardship. A ceasefire agreement has not been fully formalized.
Abiy Ahmed has received the Nobel Peace Prize.
