The eight-episode television series produced for Sky will bring the story up to date "by exploring how power, secrets and misogyny take on new and insidious expressions in an increasingly digital world," writes Deadline.
In 2009, Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy was filmed with Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace in the roles of Blomkvist and Salander. In 2011, the American film version "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the lead roles premiered.
According to information provided to the entertainment site, the British television series will explore the Vanger family in more depth than the films did and include more family members.
Filming begins in Lithuania in October.
