David Druid steps down as Musikhjälpen presenter after private argument video surfaces

David Druid was due to host “Musikhjälpen”, but he is now stepping down from the major event. The decision was his own, according to Sveriges Radio.

“David has made this decision, and I think it’s a wise one,” project manager Simon Rosenqvist told TT.

David Druid is leaving yet another programme at Sveriges Radio after footage of a private argument was shared on social media, prompting a strong reaction and making headlines.

In recent days, David has been thinking about how the attention surrounding him could affect “Musikhjälpen”. He has come to the conclusion that there is too great a risk that the attention surrounding him will distract from “Musikhjälpen” and its important mission, says Simon Rosenqvist.

“Hypothetical question”

According to Rosenqvist, the decision was entirely Druid’s own.

Would you have removed him yourself if he had not reached that conclusion on his own?

It is a bit of a hypothetical question. The important thing now is that David has made this decision. He does not want to remain as a presenter, and I think it is a wise decision.

After a video clip of a private argument, in which David Druid verbally attacks someone, was shared on social media, Sveriges Radio announced on Sunday that he would not be presenting “Morgonpasset” on P3 for the time being.

New presenter sought

At the time, it had already been decided that three days later he would be announced as one of this year’s three presenters for the major event “Musikhjälpen” in Linköping from November 30 to December 6, according to information provided to SVT.

Who will host “Musikhjälpen” is not yet known.

There are less than four weeks to go, and we obviously need to find a presenter who can replace David. So that is our priority right now. And I think that will be possible. There are many good presenters in our organisation, says Simon Rosenqvist.
