Clayton-Thomas was the lead singer of the jazz and soul-inspired rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears, which enjoyed its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. He later continued as a solo artist and as a member of later versions of the band.
Among the hits are "Spinning Wheel," "When I Die," and the ballad "You've Made Me So Very Happy."
The group received two Grammys in 1970. In 2023, a documentary about the group "What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?" was also released.
David Clayton-Thomas died on Wednesday at a Toronto hospital, Deadline reports. He was 84.
