Real Madrid is demanding almost the equivalent of 40 billion kronor in compensation from the European Football Association (Uefa), the AFP news agency reports, citing sources. This after a Spanish court rejected an appeal from the association regarding the so-called super league in football.

The case is based on a decision by the European Court of Justice from 2023. It found that UEFA and the International Football Association Board (FIFA) violated EU competition law when they blocked plans for a super league and hindered free competition.

On Wednesday, UEFA's appeal, which was also supported by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish top league La Liga, was rejected.

Real Madrid then announced that they would demand compensation for lost revenue and other "damages".

According to the AFP news agency, citing sources, the club is now demanding $4 billion – equivalent to approximately 37.5 billion Swedish kronor – from Uefa.

When plans for the Super League were unveiled in 2021, UEFA announced that any clubs that joined would be excluded from all UEFA competitions. Many clubs that had shown interest in the Super League subsequently chose to withdraw.
