The American telecom giant Verizon has plans to reduce its workforce by 15,000 positions, according to information from the Wall Street Journal.

In early October, Verizon replaced its CEO Hans Vestberg, who was previously CEO of Ericsson, with Dan Schulman, former CEO of Paypal.

The cuts, the company's largest to date, will take place next week. The company also plans to convert 200 stores to franchise operations.

Verizon had about 100,000 employees in February, writes the Wall Street Journal.
