A man is sentenced to both gross negligence in traffic and gross fraud for concealing the reason behind his Tesla crash in August last year, reports Sala Allehanda.
The man turned on the autopilot function during an ongoing journey along Highway 56. He then unbuckled his seatbelt and moved over to the passenger seat. However, the so-called autopilot disengages if the driver releases the steering wheel, which led to the car crashing into the median strip and coming to a standstill in the traffic lane.
However, the man told the insurance company that the car had simply skidded.
His then-wife was sitting in the backseat and secretly filmed the incident. After the couple went their separate ways, she handed the film over to the police.
The sentence for the charges in the Gävle District Court is a conditional sentence and community service for the man. Furthermore, he must pay back the approximately 715,000 kronor he received from the insurance company.
