The dark day on Wall Street on Friday continued as major Asian indexes opened for the week. In addition, oil prices rose after Iran and Israel attacked each other.

The Kospi saw a significant drop at the open and, despite a small recovery, was down 5.4 percent in Monday's opening trade.

Japan's Nikkei 225 was also falling sharply, down 4.0 percent, while the broader Topix was down 2.7 percent.

The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng was down 0.9 percent, while Shanghai and Shenzhen were down 0.7 and 1.4 percent, respectively.
