Asia's leading stock exchanges were mostly down in early Monday trading, following a dismal close on Wall Street last week.
Several reports on the state of the US economy affected the market on Friday, causing the American stock exchanges to plummet – and the Asian ones to follow suit on Monday.
By lunchtime, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index had fallen by 0.6 percent. Shanghai's composite index and South Korea's Kospi index were also down 0.1 and 0.7 percent, respectively.
Shenzhen's composite index went against the trend and was up 0.1 percent. The stock exchange in Japan is closed for a national holiday.
