Danish tennis star Holger Rune left the Royal Tennis Hall in tears after tearing his Achilles tendon. Now he has undergone a successful operation in Copenhagen. "I will get through this", he says in a press release.

The 22-year-old Dane led the semifinal in Nordic Open on Saturday with 1–0 in sets over the Frenchman Ugo Humbert when the accident occurred.

Holger Rune tore his Achilles tendon and had to give up. On Tuesday, he was operated on at the private hospital Aleris-Hamlet in Copenhagen. How long he will be away is unclear.

"It was unfortunate and it has been a few really tough days, I have been very, very sad. This requires patience but I will fight every day to come back strong", says the world tennis player.

He also thanks for the support he has received.

"I have received so incredibly many nice messages and greetings from fans all over the world and from family, friends and colleagues and it warms a lot in a difficult time. That love means a lot", he says.

Norwegian Casper Ruud took home the title in the Stockholm tournament.
