The Danish tennis star Holger Rune withdraws from the OS. The reason is a wrist injury that he has been struggling with, writes the Danish Sports Confederation in a press release.
"I'm really sorry that I have to withdraw from the OS. It's something I've really been looking forward to playing and being a part of," says Rune in the press release.
He also tells that he has been struggling with the wrist problem since the Italian Open in Rome in May – and that he has been playing with pain since then.
"After playing with pain during both the clay and grass seasons, I have to take the medical advice seriously. I will be following the OS from home and cheering on all Danish athletes, and I hope and believe that we can bring home many medals from Paris. Come on Denmark," says Rune.
The OS tennis tournament begins on Saturday.
