It is unclear why the sperm bank, which is one of the world's largest with headquarters in Copenhagen, has been reported to the police.
But to the families I would like to say: we are following this case closely. It should be safe as a family to use Danish sperm donors and receive fertility treatment in Denmark, says Bente Møller, head of unit for the Danish regulatory authority.
A Danish man began donating sperm to the European Sperm Bank in 2005, which has led to 197 biological children. Swedish children are among them, SVT has previously reported, but no Swedish clinics are involved.
Neither he nor ESB knew at the time that a potentially fatal gene variant was hiding in some of his sperm – and that several of his biological children would suffer from cancer.
