Usha Vance, who is married to the US Vice President JD Vance, is traveling to Greenland on Thursday, confirms her office to Danish TV2.
The visit, which is not official, takes place against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's repeated statements about the country wanting to take over the autonomous Danish territory.
I think it's going to happen, said Trump earlier in March when asked about his thoughts on a "possible annexation".
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says in a written statement to Greenlandic Sermitsiaq that she takes the visit "seriously", and emphasizes that Denmark wants to cooperate with the US.
"But it must be a cooperation that builds on the fundamental values of sovereignty and respect between countries and peoples", says Frederiksen.
She also repeats that the dialogue with the US about Greenland will take place in close coordination between the Danish government and the upcoming government on Greenland.
Danish police have been flown to Greenland due to the visit, confirms the National Police to Danish media.
Jyllands-Posten has reported, citing diplomatic sources, that US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is accompanying on the trip.
