With the US's interest in taking control of Greenland, the island's population may be exposed to influence campaigns by several major powers, the Danish security service PET said.

The analysis is given in a response to the newspaper Berlingske.

PET writes that "the increased great-power competition in the Arctic and the US's stated interest in taking control of Greenland means that Greenland in the current situation may be the target of influence campaigns from primarily Russia, China and the US."

These are influence campaigns aimed at creating division in relations between Denmark and Greenland by exploiting existing or invented differences of opinion, according to PET.

However, the Security Service does not say whether any concrete examples of influence campaigns from the major powers have been discovered in the past 12 months.
